The name ‘COUNT 10’ came from systematic desensitization therapy, which was a behavioral therapy for anxiety. I arranged a hierarchy of stimuli from one to ten, with one being my most acceptable physical contact and ten being my least acceptable one.
I made a model of my right hand and wrist, which served as the book cover. Then, I placed the small book recording my COUNT 10 list inside the hand model. When the audience tried to take out the book, they had to touch my ‘hand’. The places they touched would turn into a color that looked very similar to bruises, which was how uncomfortable
I felt when someone touched me. The audience was able to understand my discomfort and unsettlement very effectively through the special tactile sensation and changing colors.
